Centre in Parliament: Lockdown Lowers COVID Deaths, No Data On Migrant Deaths

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the member of the Parliament who attended the monsoon session amid the COVID pandemic. 

Before the Parliament session began, PM Modi said that he wished all MPs should send a solidarity message to soldiers that the nation stands firmly behind them on their mission to safeguard the country’s borders. 

The Centre informed the parliament that there is no data available on the number of migrant workers who died during the 68-day nationwide lockdown restrictions that were enforced from March 25to curb the COVID-19 spread. 

Union Ministry of Labour and Employment responded to a question raised in the Lok Sabha seeking information on whether the government was aware that several migrant workers had died.

Minister maintained that the centre will provide the needed compensation to kins of the migrant workers who died. 

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan informed that due to the nationwide efforts, COVID-19 related deaths have been limited to 55 per million population.
