Government's Tribute To Late People's Leader Sushma Swaraj

February 14 marks the birth anniversary of late Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to her unwavering commitment to public service and for epitomising dignity, decency and unwavering commitment. He regarded her as an outstanding minister and an exceptional colleague. 

Sushma Swaraj was regarded as a woman of many firsts including her role as the chief minister of Delhi and party spokesperson. 

As a tribute to her, the government had renamed the cultural centre in Delhi Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra as Sushma Swaraj Bhavan.

This is done to honour Sushma's empathy and influence on people around the world.

As the foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj was known for being easily accessible to citizens around the world. Her Mars tweet became famous after her untimely demise.

She helped rescue stranded Indians around the world by helping them reach the Indian embassy or other officials. She rescued a man who threatened to commit suicide unless she helped him escape Saudi Arabia. 

She rescued stranded Indians who were kidnapped by ISIS after six months and similarly nurses from Iraq were rescued in 2014. 

Sushma was also popular amongst her rivals as well. Some of the daring moves she made include demanding strict laws for rape post Nirbhaya case in 2012. She was one of the politicians who argued that the age of criminals who will be tried as adults in severe crimes be reduced to 16 from 18 as one of the Nirbhaya rapists was a juvenile.
