NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said that the Indian population is not any way closer to achieving herd immunity clearing doubts regarding the nation's status on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) also advised against any attempts to achieve herd immunity and to focus on the steps that work the best.
Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID 19 Technical Lead, WHO, said that achieving herd immunity as a process should not be seen as an option, and the attempts to achieve it itself is dangerous.
Dr Harsh Vardhan's comments came after WHO's address and added that vaccination is the best option. He added that masks are mandatory.
