WASHINGTON, US: Vice president Kamala Harris makes history as the first woman with presidential hours after President Joe Biden was under anesthetic.
She held the office for one hour and 25 minutes, according to the white house press office.
President Biden had to undergo a routine colonoscopy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center before resuming his duties at 11:35 am.
During the 2020 presidential elections, Kamala Harris became the first woman, person of color and person of South Asian descent to be vice president.
Press secretary Jen Psaki said that the power was transferred to the vice president, as was seen in the case of first president George Washington.
