NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi expressed her support for a full shutdown of Delhi due to the intense air pollution. She shared a video on her social media page with #DelhiBandh which mentioned that the citizens are tired of inaction.
The message in the video reads that the authorities need to the priority of citizens health because of Delhites are suffering.
The message also highlights how air pollution is killing children and elderly such silent miscarriage in women, heart attack, strokes and other deadly diseases.
Delhi is currently under the state of a public health emergency, declared by Environment Pollution (Control and Prevention) Authority (EPCA), with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) being 625 which is the highest this year.
The odd-even scheme has been implemented in the state until the situation eases up by mid-November this year. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called Delhi a gas-chamber and further stated that the situation has become unbearable in the state.
He had blamed the stubble burning in the neighbouring states Punjab and Haryana for the increase in smog in Delhi but he urged the centre to take action.
Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar slammed CM Kejriwal for politicising the issue.
Delhi residents are clearly angry with the blame game between politicians in Delhi, Punjab and the centre and want a clear action.
PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister said that the centre will keep tabs on the situation.
Air pollution is not a stranger to the national capital due to the exhaust from vehicles, lack of greenery, and due to no access to seas or oceans.
