Priyanka Gandhi to Visit Lakhimpur Kheri to Pay Last Respects to Farmer Victims

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be heading to Lakhimpur Kheri today to pay last respects and participate in the final rites of the victims of the violence. Final prayers for the victims will be performed at a field away from the spot where the violence took place.

The Lucknow-Sitapur-Lakhimpur highway was seen with heavy barricading and police checks. Some banners reading "Rahul Gandhi Go Back, Priyanka Gandhi Go Back" were also seen along the highway. Some banners mentioned that Congress is faking sympathy and people do not want it, reported NDTV.

Farmer leader and national spokesperson of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Rakesh Tikait arrived in Tikunia last night for the ceremony. Leaders of various farm unions from different areas will participate in the ritual. BKU-Tikait district vice president Balkar Singh said, "No political leader will be allowed to share the stage where only Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leaders will be present."

Ashish Mishra - son of Union Minister of State for home, Ajay Mishra is accused of mowing down the protesting farmers in his SUV. He was arrested after he could not prove his alibi.
