Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan in Rajya Sabha demanded stringent punishment against those involved in the brutal gang rape and murder of the 26-year-old veterinarian doctor in Hyderabad.
"I don't know how many times I have stood and spoken after this kind of crime. I think it is the perfect time. Whether it be Nirbhaya or Kathua or what happened in Telangana. I think that people want the government to give a proper and definite answer for all these crimes," said the actress-turned-politician.
She added that the people who had failed to protect women and children from such horrific assaults should be "named and shamed"
Four men have been arrested in the case of veterinary doctor's death. Her charred body was found in the outskirts of the city. As per the reports, she was abducted after her scooter tyre became flat and was gang-raped.
Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu also condemned the incident and termed it as a ‘disgrace to the society’.
“What happened in Hyderabad is such an extreme disgrace to our society and value system. What is required is not a new bill again. What is required is political will, administrative skill, a change of mindset and then go for kill of the social evil,” he said.
Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad opined that the whole nation has to get together to finish such crime from roots.
"Stringent action should be taken in all these cases of sexual assault on women should be taken after a trial in fast track court and punishment given within a timeframe," said Sanjay Singh of the Aam Adami Party (AAP).
AIADMK MP Vijila Sathyananth also asked to implement capital punishment for the four accused in the Telagana case before Dec 31.
Another Congress MP Amee Yajnik asked all the systems, judiciary, legislative, executive & other systems to come together for a social reformation that should happen soon.
