India 4th In Making Requests To Twitter: Report

NEW DELHI: Microblogging site Twitter’s Transparency Report revealed that India is the fourth country in terms of the number of government requests made to Twitter between July and December last year.

Of all requests, India makes up about 9% and before that, the United States tops the list comprising 26% of all requests, followed by Japan (22%), France (12%).

Social media site said that the aggregate number of accounts specified in these requests increased by nearly 63% in its biannual transparency report site into a comprehensive Twitter Transparency Centre.

When it comes to third-party legal demands that compel Twitter to remove information, India is in the fifth place, after  Japan, Russia, Turkey and South Korea.
