NEW DELHI: Indian President Ramnath Kovind urged STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine) institutions to encourage participation and growth of women in these fields and help them to break the glass ceiling.
"Women take just about 20% of engineering and technical institute enrollments," he said.
He said that women's growth in the tech field is important because it will add a new dimension to India's development, addressing the NIT-18th Rourkela’s annual convocation.
President presented degrees and awards to the NIT-Rourkela graduating class and said that graduation is an important stepping stone in people's lives.
1470 candidates were awarded degrees; 544 BTech, 17 Barch, 17 Btech-Mtech, 74 integrated Msc, 125 MSc, 21 MA, 25 MBA, 118 PhD degree, 424 MTech, and four MTech.
