Pop singer Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears has filed a petition to end his role as her conservator.
The filing indicates that he wishes to step back from the role and end his daughter's court-ordered conservatorship. Britney had repeatedly stated that she wants the arrangement to end and called it "exploitative", reported AFP.
Jamie Spears had recently stated that he is ready to step back from his role as conservator. The petition read: "Recent events related to this conservatorship have called into question whether circumstances have changed to such an extent that grounds for the establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist," reported CNN.
Jamie Spears, in his petition, said that he wants what’s best for his daughter and that she "believes that she can handle her own life". Mathew Rosengart, Britney's lawyer, said the petition was a "vindication" for his client.
Britney has repeatedly alleged that her father's treatment amounted to "cruelty" and accused him of profiting from the arrangement.
The 39-year-old pop star had told the Court that she wants the control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship. She had stated that she wants to be able to make decisions regarding medical care, career, and money.
