Nirbhaya Rapists To Be Hanged On January 22nd

Four men convicted for torturing and raping a paramedical student on December 16th, 2012 will be hanged on January 22 at 7 am in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Satish Arora, an additional sessions judge in Delhi court, issued a death warrant to four men Pawan Gupta (25), Mukesh (32), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31).

They were informed of this decision by Satish Arora and the convicts' lawyer said that they will look into legal remedies in two weeks.

The authorities are preparing for the execution with the help of  dummies' in jail. Many executioners have volunteered for the execution of the four rapists including shooter Vartika Singh, who wrote to Amit Shah saying that the execution should be carried out by a woman.

Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi said that killing the four men will ensure her daughter the justice she deserves.

Nirbhaya gangrape was one of the most brutal cases recorded in India where six men attacked, tortured, and gang-raped a 23-year-old paramedical student inside a moving bus.

This led to massive protests across India for days, and it led to changes in the legal and judiciary system. 16-year-old men who committed heinous crimes like rape will be tried as adults after the reforms in the law.

The jail term for rape has been increased from seven years to ten years in prison. Gangrapes, where the victim is killed or left in a vegetable state, will be punished with the death penalty. The repeated offence of sexual assault will be tried with the death penalty.
