Adult Have Right To Choose Partner Irrespective Of Religion: Allahabad HC

ALLAHABAD: Allahabad High Court reaffirmed that two adults have the right to choose their partner for marriage, irrespective of their religion.

Division Bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Deepak Verma said that in cases where a couple chooses to be with each other, not even the parents can object to their marriage. 

Petition was moved by one Shifa Hasan and her partner, both residents of Uttar Pradesh.

Hasan also said that she fears possible threats to their lives in the view of their marriage.

Uttar Pradesh has passed a law against interfaith marriages to check forced conversion. Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have followed their suits.
