The Supreme Court has allowed the CBI two more weeks to complete the on-going probe into the accident of the Unnao rape victim.
Considering the request plea filed by the CBI that the statements of the survivor and her lawyer were not recorded because of their critical condition, the bench hearing the case extended the time to compete the investigation.
The CBI has been investigating the accident case in which a truck rammed into the car in which the rape survivor, her aunts and her lawyer were traveling. Her two aunts died in the crash. The lawyer and the victim are being treated for critical injuries at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
A bench comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose have ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to pay Rs 5 lakh to the lawyer.
The apex court ordered all the cases related to the survivor to Delhi. The girl was raped back in 2017 when she was a minor.
The alleged politician MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been expelled by BJP. District and Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma ordered framing of charges under sections including rape, criminal conspiracy, and kidnapping against accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
The CBI requested four more weeks on the ground that they could not record statements from the rape survivor and her lawyer as they are in critical condition.
The rape survivor had written a letter to the Chief Justice of India before the allegedly planned road accident. She wrote the letter to an alleged threat from the accused BJP MLA who has been in jail for assaulting her.
The Supreme Court has given this letter the utmost importance.
