A woman from Gujarat faces contempt of court charges for her bizarre protest against the controversial Bombay High Court judge, Justice Justice Pushpa Gandediwala.
Devshri Trivedi sent almost 150 condoms to the judge, to 12 different locations, including Justice Ganediwala’s chamber, the registry of the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, and the principal seat in Mumbai.
She said that Ganediwala's verdicts on POCSO cases, notably the "skin-to-skin" contact verdict, were intolerable and that she cannot tolerate injustice done to minors.
About her decision to send her condoms, Trivedi said she does not fear because due to the order of Justice Ganediwala, men can go scot-free for sexually assaulting girls over their clothes.
The senior advocate of the Nagpur Bar Association, Shrirang Bhandarkar demanded action against Trivedi.
Ganediwala made it to the news for acquitting a man charged under POCSO because he did not make skin-to-skin contact.
She also acquitted another man, accused of harassing a 5-year-old, saying that “holding the hands of a minor” and the accused “opening the zip of pants” did not account to assault under POCSO.
She also acquitted a man charged for rape under POCSO because the survivor's age was not verified.
Due to her controversial verdicts, the supreme court collegium withdrew Justice Ganediwala's recommendation for a permanent judge spot.
