Indian Women Loses Bronze Match, Man Held For Casteist Remarks Against Vandana

TOKYO, JAPAN: Indian women's hockey team lost the bronze medal match against Great Britain and finished fourth in the competition. 

Great Britain bounced back to win the match 4-3, Indian team's superb efforts in Tokyo were applauded by the fans.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to show praise for India's brave performance saying that their success so far will motivate young women.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan, who played the lead role in the 2007 film 'Chak de! India' praised women's game.

A man was arrested from Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district for allegedly passing casteist remarks against the family of Vandana Katariya.

Katariya made history by scoring hat trick goals in the match against Australia. 

Police said that after the team's loss against Argentina,  two men allegedly danced and burst firecrackers outside Vandana’s house in the Roshnabad area in a gesture of mockery.

Her family alleged that they said how the team lost because of Dalits players and that Dalits should be banned from all sports teams.
