HYDERABAD: Indian tennis player Sania Mirza announced her retirement and that 2022 will be her final season on the WTA tour.
Former world no:1 wrote that she is yet to fully recover from her injuries and also find it difficult to travel with her son due to the same reason.
35-year-old is a former world No. 1 in doubles along with her partner Martina Hingis and had a career-best ranking of 27 in singles.
"There are more days than there used to be where I don’t feel like doing that. I’ve always said that I will play until I enjoy that grind, the process which I’m not sure I’m enjoying as much anymore,” she wrote.
She has won 43 doubles trophy. She is also a three-time women’s doubles and mixed doubles Grand Slam winner.
She made the annoucement to retire after her first-round loss in women’s doubles with her partner Ukrainian partner Nadiia Kichenok.
