Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami was arrested by Alibaug police on Wednesday morning in connection with the 2018 suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik (53) and his mother Kumud Naik.
The suicide note written by Anvay was found by the police and it mentioned that Arnab Goswami, Feroz Shaikh, and Niteish Sarda owed him Rs. 5.40 crore. He committed suicide due to the financial constraints caused by them.
The case filed by Alibaug police was closed by Raigad police in 2019. But in May 2020, Adnya Naik, daughter of the deceased complained that the police did not investigate the “non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami’s Republic”. After this, Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh announced a fresh CID investigation.
Naik was the managing director of Concorde Designs Pvt. Ltd. which provided services for Republic TV. His mother was also on the Board of Directors. When Anvay Naik's wife Akshata filed a complaint against Arnab Goswami in 2018, the Republic TV said the allegations of non-payment is part of a "malicious campaign".
