NEW DELHI: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had announced its decision to cancel class 10th and postpone class 12th exams.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and other officials took the decision after a high-level meeting.
Students across India have been calling for the cancellation or postponement of board exams due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
Along with CBSE, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra have postponed their state board exams.
West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh said they are monitoring the COVID-19 situation during the exam season.
Karnataka and Meghalaya said that they will conduct the board exams though the latter will change the decision as per the situation.
Kerala state said that so far, the decision is to go ahead with the exams.
Chhattisgarh government had earlier put off class 10 exams scheduled to begin on April 15 and Tamil Nadu had canceled class 10 exams in February.
Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) said it will decide on whether they will be conducting class 10 and 12 board exams.
