India Begins Fight Against COVID-19 With Vaccination

NEW DELHI: In India, there are 1,05,27,683 cases of COVID-19 and the country began the major fight against the disease with a vaccination drive. 

There are 2,13,027 active cases, 1,01,62,738 people have recovered and 1,51,918 people died.

The Union Health Ministry said that India recorded the lowest number of new cases per million with 87 new COVID-19 cases per million population in the last seven days.

The case fatality rate stands at 1.44% when compared to nations such as the US, the UK, Russia, Germany, Brazil, France, and Italy. 

About the vaccination drive in India;

The Indian government has approved Covishield developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and Covaxin from Bharat Biotech.

Covishield and CoVaxin may cost in the range of Rs 200 to 295.

3 lakh healthcare workers will be administered the vaccine against COVID-19. After that, 27 crores older than 50 or considered high-risk will get the vaccines.

There are 3,006 session sites across all states and union territories, around 100 beneficiaries will be vaccinated at each session site.

The Indian government also cautioned against possible side effects of the vaccine.

  2. Nausea 
  3. Dizziness-giddiness
  4. Tremour 
  5. Sweating
  6. Cold or cough
  7. Swelling at the injection site
