To vaccinate half of their population, India has used its manufacturing capability to pre-order 600 million doses of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine.
India is negotiating for another billion doses, according to a new global analysis of advance market commitments (AMCs).
The United States has pre-ordered 810 million confirmed doses and has another 1.6 billion under negotiation.
An analysis by US-based Duke Global Health Innovation Center said that it will take at least three to four years to manufacture enough vaccines to cover the world’s population.
India already purchased nearly 3.8 billion doses, with options for another five billion.
