Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the new Citizenship Amendment Act the right decision made by the government. Addressing a rally in Jharkhand, he said that the law is important because it offers protection to the persecuted religious groups from neighbouring countries.
He called the Citizenship Amendment Act a 1000% right decision.
His comments are coming amidst massive violent protest from citizens in Assam and other regions. Some of the allies of BJP including Shiv Sena and Asom Gana Parishad are against the bill and BJP's decision to implement it.
The Citizenship Amendment Act will provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Buddhists from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah said that they are vulnerable to religious and wants to offer protection.
There have been several cases of forced conversion, blasphemy and other atrocities reported from the three Muslim dominated nations.
However, CAA, when enacted with National Registry of Citizens, will prosecute Muslim illegal immigrants with either deportation or detention.
